Project Description
A compact, high-spec meltshop originally installed for low- and medium-alloy steel ingot production. The meltshop was commissioned in 2007 and mothballed in mid-2010 following the global financial crisis. It has been held in dry preservation since, with OEM drawings, electrical diagrams, and operating manuals available for most key systems.
Equipment included:
- (1983) Mannesmann DEMAG 12.4t Electric Arc Furnace
Drawings included to uprate capacity to 16.6t. - (1981) Mannesmann DEMAG 8t AOD Converter
Designed for alloy-steel and stainless applications. - (2008) FRANKWEN FORGE 12t Vacuum Degasser
Twin-tank unit equipped with Boc Edwards IDX1000 dry-pump system. - (1983) TAMINI Main Transformer
Capacity: 10000 kVA. - Complete Extraction & Bag House System
- Scrap Charging Buckets × 4
Each measuring 1730 mm × 1310 mm.
Manufacturing Process
- Scrap Charging
- Four 1.7 m × 1.3 m buckets feed the 12.4 t EAF.
- Melting (12.4t Electric Arc Furnace)
- Ultra-high-power AC furnace, tap-upgrade drawings to 16.6 t.
- Primary Refining (AOD 8t)
- Argon/O₂ decarburisation for low- & mid-alloy steels, full tuyere system and control valves included.
- Secondary Metallurgy (VD)
- 12t Vacuum Degasser with Boc Edwards HV 30 000 booster and IDX1000 dry pumps (ultimate vacuum 5 × 10⁻² mbar).
- Casting
- Casting was carried out into ingot moulds.
- Layout allows straightforward integration of a ladle furnace or continuous caster if desired.
