Due to internal reorganization, MSW Moselstahlwerk GmbH’s 60t Melt Shop now is up for sale, including the Continuous Charging, Tenova EAF, Ladle Furnace, Vacuum Degasser and Danieli Continuous Caster for Billet Production located in the steelheart-area in Europe - Trier, Germany.

This facility represents one of the most technologically advanced melt shops of its generation, originally equipped by TENOVA with the CONSTEEL continuous scrap charging system, electric arc furnace, ladle furnace, ladle standby, vacuum degasser and continuous caster, further engineered and upgraded in entirety in 2008 (investment of €80 million in technological modernization). Together, these systems combine high productivity with reduced energy consumption and environmental impact, integrating all the processes into a single efficient production line, with a designed annual capacity of approximately 560,000t of liquid steel.

The plant's design enables the production of a wide range of steel grades within tightly controlled parameters for tapping temperature, carbon content, and alloying, making it suitable for both standard-grade and higher-specification steel production.

The offered machinery and equipment list spans across all departments and comprises of:

  1. (2016) HASCON Deduster & Quencher
  2. (2008) TENOVA CONSTEEL Scrap Conveyor
  3. (2008) TENOVA Electric Arc Furnace, incl. Transformer
  4. (2008) TENOVA Ladle Furnace with Ladle Standby
  5. EUROMEC Alloy Addition System
  6. (2008) TENOVA Vacuum Degasser
  7. (2008) DANIELI Centro Met Continuous Caster
  8. (2008) DANIELI Centro Met Cooling Bed

Manufacturing Process
  1. Scrap Handling & Continuous Preheating
Ferrous scrap is received in the scrap yard and continuously charged onto the CONSTEEL conveyor system. Before entering the furnace, the scrap is preheated using recovered furnace off-gases, improving energy efficiency and ensuring a dry, uniformly heated charge.
  2. Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Melting
The preheated scrap is continuously fed into the 60-ton Electric Arc Furnace, where it is melted under foamy slag. Oxygen and carbon injection support efficient melting, refining, and bath homogenisation while reducing power consumption and electrode wear.
  3. Secondary Metallurgy (Ladle Furnace & Vacuum Degassing)
After tapping, the molten steel is transferred to the 60-ton Ladle Furnace for alloying, temperature adjustment and inert gas stirring. For high-quality steel grades, the steel undergoes vacuum degassing to remove dissolved gases and improve cleanliness and mechanical properties.
  4. Continuous Casting & Cooling
The treated steel is cast into semi-finished shapes on the Danieli Centro Met Continuous Caster, before being transferred to the cooling bed for controlled cooling ahead of further processing or shipment.
  5. Fume Extraction & Environmental Control
Process emissions from the EAF, CONSTEEL, Ladle Furnace and alloy handling systems are captured by a dedicated fume extraction and baghouse system. The CONSTEEL technology significantly reduces dust generation, energy consumption and overall environmental impact compared to conventional EAF operations.
